Here's lots of advance warning. The Grand Bend Community Run, which is part of the Runner's Choice Runpiker Series, is set for October 16, 2005 at 10 am.
The race starts and finishes near the beach on Main Street. The 5k and 10k are on the roads or hard asphalt. No sand running at all.
As we get closer to the run date, I'll have more information from Martin Thuss, our race organizer extraordinaire. If you have any questions in the meantime, you can email him.
Did you know that Grand Bend has a Fitness Centre? Yes we do, right behind Tim Horton's (ah, the irony). And, the fitness centre sponsors the Grand Bend Fitness Centre Fun Walk for Community Living - South Huron. This year the walk is the weekend after Labour Day.
Community Living-South Huron is a non-profit organization that helps developmentally challenged people participate in and contribute to all aspect of community and family life.

Beware. I am cruising the streets of Grand Bend looking for photo ops to promote Grand Bend Winter Carnival. Yesterday I caught the gang at the Pine Dale Motor Inn in the midst of preparing their snow sculpture. (Click on the picture for a full size image).
The overall form of the sculpture has not yet emerged from the minds of the creative team (if they have a plan, they aren't sharing it with me).

I woke up Wednesday to a a spectacular winter wonder. For some reason, ice crystals froze on to every tree in town, creating a tinsel like effect. Remember those artificial Christmas trees in the seventies that were all white? Well, Grand Bend looked just like that.
With the assistance of some long underwear, a touque (that's a hat for any out of country readers), and a couple of layers of gloves, I was able to capture some of this glorious view, before the sun melted it all away.
Grand Bend's 19th annual winter carnival is this weekend, Feb 4-6 and next weekend, Feb 12 - 14. Come and join us, skate on the pond, play snow golf, ice sculpture mini putt, watch the children's talent contest, or see Yuk Yuk's at Oakwood. Come join us.
